Anita June Crousser, 56, of McMinnville, Ore., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2017, in Lewiston.
Anita was born Nov. 15, 1960, in Pomeroy, to Alton Crousser and Barbara Carr. Growing up in Coos Bay, Ore., Anita was an extremely successful athlete at Marshfield High School. She was well known for her accomplishments in both track and field and cross-country running, and her unusual preference for running barefoot.
After graduating high school, Anita went on to earn a double bachelor's degree in English and history from Linfield College in McMinnville. Anita once again displayed her exceptional athletic ability as a nationally ranked collegiate cross-country runner. Anita finished her education with a master's degree in theology from Mt. Angel Seminary in 1994.
Anita was a certified master gardener from Oregon State University and an avid reader. She enjoyed helping others, especially through her charity work with Habitat for Humanity. Anita enjoyed both collecting antique art and turn-of-the-century house restoration, having restored numerous McMinnville properties. She also excelled at farming and enjoyed working with all types of animals. She devoted much of her life to the arts and child education.
Anita was a beloved substitute teacher for the Lewiston Independent School District in Lewiston. Anita's kindness, compassion and genuine love will be missed by all those whose lives she touched.
Anita is survived by her husband, Dave DeVore; daughters Atina (Ryan) Enoch and Dusti DeVore; stepdaughter Bridget DeVore; stepson Shawn (Jill) DeVore; siblings Louise, Bobbie, Alton Jr., Don, Randy, Cindy, Angel, Bruce, Brian, Sherri, Wade and Jesse; parents Alton Crousser and Barbara Carr; grandchildren Jaxon, Kaiden, Loleta, Hailey, Aja, Madeleine and Nicolette; and great-grandchildren Rourke, Romeo and Camille. She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Crousser, and nephew Ryan Crousser.
