Ann Marie Ledgerwood Swinehart passed away very peacefully Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at Guardian Angel Homes in Lewiston, where she had resided for two years.
Ann, an only child, was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Lewiston, to Lester G. and Harriet (Manning) Roueche. When she was very young, they moved to Pomeroy, where she spent her childhood and graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1950. Also in 1950, she married W. Troy Ledgerwood. In 1964, they moved their family to Clarkston. They divorced in 1970.
In 1971, Ann completed her nursing degree at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston. She enjoyed a 23-year career as a registered nurse at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. She was a loving and compassionate nurse. After retiring, she taught for five years in the nursing skills lab at Walla Walla Community College in Clarkston. She enjoyed that experience to the fullest. Three different years she was recognized and honored by the graduating nursing class as outstanding teacher of the year.
Ann married Verle Swinehart in 1986. They especially enjoyed road trips, exploring northern Idaho and northeastern Washington. Verle passed away in 1993.
Throughout her life, Ann enjoyed trips within the United States, as well as to the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Cambodia and Thailand. She often took extended trips to visit her children.
Ann was an avid, lifelong reader, passing that love on to her children and grandchildren. She gardened most of her life, with the last years spent tending her lovely roses.
Ann was passionate about genealogy and enjoyed the "hunt" to find family connections. She often helped others in their quests for family genealogy. Ann was a loving mother and grandmother and enjoyed time with her family most of all.
She is survived by her six children, Sally Ledgerwood (Gary Ingram) of Bellingham, Wash., Tom (Carlyn) Ledgerwood of Clarkston, Peggy Dudley of Colton, Judy Ledgerwood (Kheang Un) of DeKalb, Ill., Christine (Ted) Flores of Fresno, Calif., and John Dale Ledgerwood of Spokane. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ann was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, 920 21st Ave., Lewiston. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1109 Chestnut St., Clarkston. The family suggests memorials to Holy Family School 1002 Chestnut St., Clarkston, WA 99403.
