Anne C. Haener

Anne C. Haener

2/3/1935 — 9/2/2017

Anne Catherine (Mader) Haener passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017. She will be dearly missed.

Anne was born to Leo H. Mader and Elinor C. (Neis) Mader on Feb. 3, 1935, in Cottonwood. Anne's family raised cattle in the Keuterville/Salmon River area. Her mother Elinor was a school teacher.

Anne graduated high school from St. Gertrude's Academy in 1953, and from St. Alphonsus School of Nursing in Boise in 1956. She worked as a registered nurse at Grangeville General Hospital (now Syringa) until April 1958. Then she worked off and on as a special duty nurse until 1962. Anne kept her nursing license active and updated her training throughout her life.

On Sept. 2, 1957, Anne married Henry "Hank" F. Haener and was a devoted wife and loving mother to five children. They lived in Grangeville until 1968, when they moved to Moscow to manage and own University Ridge Apartments. In 1995, Anne and Hank retired and moved to Clarkston. They were married for 57 years, until Hank passed.

Anne was active in her Catholic parishes, her guild and helped with funeral dinners. She was a Cub Scout den leader in Moscow. Anne was an accomplished seamstress and cook. Her biggest passion was for her family, to whom she was selflessly devoted. She always put others first. Anne had a fantastic memory and could be counted on to know the genealogy and all the happenings of her Camas Prairie family and community. She kept up with the Cottonwood Chronicle her entire life. At age 4, she was queen of the Idaho County stock show, and at age 16 she was the Idaho County stock show princess.

Survivors include her five children: Cara (Ron) Nuxoll, Kristin (Karl) Johnson, Joe (Brenda) Haener, Jerry (Lori Lee) Haener and Jay (Rakael Pope) Haener. Anne's grandchildren include Beau (Alicia) Nuxoll, Bethany Nuxoll, Claire, Leo and Ethan Haener-Pope, and Katrina Johnson. She also is survived by twin great-grandchildren Adalyn and Brielle Nuxoll, and Tim (Charlene) Hinkley, who was raised as Anne's brother from birth. Also surviving are many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; grandchild Benjamin Nuxoll; and husband Hank, who passed away in 2014.

There will be a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Holy Family Church in Clarkston. We want to thank Anne's special caregivers for their loving help. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home will be handling some details.

Donations can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Gertrude's Monastery or Saint Vincent de Paul.
