Alfred Paul “AP” Jones, 79, of Lewiston, was born Jan. 28, 1937, in Spokane, to Alfred F. Jones and Yvonne E. Ball Jones, and is a fourth-generation descendant of area pioneers and a world traveler. Alfred and Yvonne managed to find temporary work in Spokane, where Alfred Paul Jones was born during the Great Depression. They later returned to the Washington-Idaho Palouse and Lewiston area. AP was a widower since 2007, having been married to Dorothy M. Springer for 25 years, and was a product of the Lewiston school system.
He leaves four children, Jacquelyn Rene Odergaard of Creswell, Ore., Michaelann R. Smith of Peru, Ind., LeGrande Christian Jones of Tacoma and Reno Dawson Jones of Draper, Utah. He also leaves numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Jeffery Randolph Chase of Clarkston.
AP had multiple and varied careers and considered himself to be a philosopher, adventurer, warrior and world traveler. Some occupations and careers include peace officer, logger, trucker, business owner, rancher, engineer, standup comedian, firefighter, scuba instructor and salvage diver, corporate executive, writer, criminalist, trouble-shooter, intelligence case officer, builder, event promoter and manager, arson and explosions investigator who also dealt with chemicals, biologicals, radiologicals and radioactivity, and was a certified instructor in many fields, certified shooting instructor, motorcycle, auto, and hydroplane racer, horse trainer, emergency manager, genealogist, historian, forensic examiner and crime scene investigator, detective (both public and private), and an expert witness in certain fields. He was never out of work or business.
AP attended the University of Maryland, Oakland University, Auburn University and the American College of Forensic Examiners as an adult student. He also attended countless BATF, FBI, Homeland Security, Justice Department schools and Homeland Security training. He was still a consultant in that area both as a student and instructor.
He was a charter member of the Alky Angels motorcycle club. He also rode as a member of the Tacoma Chiefs motorcycle club for many years, time permitting. He was also occasionally a factory-sponsored motorcycle racer who raced motocross and desert races.
AP served with the 148th Field Artillery Headquarters Battery of the Idaho National Guard in Lewiston during the early 1950s. He later enlisted in the active regular U.S. Army for three years and served on the Mexican border and Korea after training. He served as a military policeman, criminal investigator and in Army Intelligence. He was honorably discharged and was awarded and eligible for medals including a Good Conduct Medal, several badges for expert, and was a sharpshooter with then-existing small firearms, Commendation Letters, the Cold War Medal, the Korean Defense Medal, the National Defense Medal and a top secret security clearance, among others.
AP served on the Winchester City Council for many years, as the fire commissioner, and ran for Lewis County sheriff two times. He was active in the Republican Party, also being county chairman wherever he was. He also served on numerous boards and commissions. AP considered the words “God, Duty, Honor, Country” more than mere words. He was also a voracious reader and considered seeking light and knowledge a sacred activity with special interest in unwritten history, biblical archaeology, philosophy and theology.
AP was the Idaho commissioner for the Scottish Clan Hamilton Society and also a descendant of the Scottish Clan Bell. He belonged to or was a member of several professional and fraternal groups, being and having been an officer in many of them.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Jones passing. Only knew him as a customer at Rosauers, he often came thru my line. Always pleasant conversation. We often discussed how he spoiled his dog with treats. He sure lives a full life. My prayers for his family and friends.
