Bernice Foss died peacefully of natural causes Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Unique Senior Care in Lewiston. She was 91.

Bernice was born April 23, 1926, to Albert and Mystie Heimgartner, at their home on Potlatch Ridge. She was the youngest of eight children. She married Robert Foss in 1944, and they were together for 67 years until his death in 2011. They had four children (Sharon Freeman, Barb Criswell, Brad Foss and Brian Foss), 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Bernice grew up in Juliaetta. After her marriage, she lived in Idaho and California. She was a stay-at-home mom who was always there for her children and later her grandchildren. After Robert's retirement in 1982, they moved back to Lapwai.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Barb, two sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and brother Floyd. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon, husband Robert, two sisters and four brothers.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Normal Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
