Bryon R. Greene

As a child, Bing delivered for Rite's Pharmacy on a bicycle. He took pride in riding boxcars to places like New York in his younger years. "Hoboing" was one his favorite terms for that time in his life. Bing's work history includes head maintenance carpenter from 1947 to 1965 at the Winchester mill. He then began his career as a member of Local No. 398, working on various construction projects until his retirement in 1981.

Bing joined the U.S. Navy on Jan. 9, 1942, and served on several ships, including the USS Monaghan, and saw action in Coral Sea and Midway. Bing was discharged from the Navy in November 1945. Bing was proud of his military service and took every opportunity to share his stories.

He met the love of his life, Marcella Boxleitner, in Winchester. They were married Oct. 19, 1947, in Clarkston. Bing loved to hunt, fish and camp and enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-granchildren's sporting events. He was known throughout the inland Northwest as "Grandpa Greene" at junior high and high school wrestling matches in support of his grandson. He once asked Coach Harrington at one of the wrestling matches if the "headlock" move was still used. Coach replied, "Not anymore, Grandpa Greene!"

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Marcella Greene; his son, Bill (Glenda) Greene of Lewiston; and his daughter, Debbie Grove of Lewiston. Survivors also include five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six siblings and his son, Steve Greene.
