Cora "Alberta" Bentham passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Prestige Care and Rehabilitation. Alberta was born to Frank A. and Louise Robinson Torrey on March 13, 1916, in Silver Creek, N.Y. Alberta married William Bentham on April 29, 1940, in Silver Creek, and they had three children, Roberta, Sally and William.
In the mid-1940s, Alberta started going to church and realized she was a sinner and asked the Lord Jesus Christ to be her savior. She graduated from Bible college in Mount Echo, N.Y., and Virginia Beach, Va. Alberta moved to Virginia Beach in 1982 to live with her son, William, then in 1998 they moved to Lewiston. She was lovingly referred to as "Gramma B" by her church family. She was faithful in church attendance and loved to read her King James Bible. Alberta taught Sunday school, sang solos and was in the choir with her beautiful soprano voice. At 100 years old she still recognized God's word when read to her. Alberta's favorite verse was Luke 6:31, "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise."
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969.
Alberta is survived by her children, Roberta (David) Dake of Tulsa, Okla., Sally (Bill) Giambrone of Hamburg, N.Y., and William Bentham of Lewiston; four grandchildren, Larry, Earl, David and Andrew Dake; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pioneer Baptist Church of Cloverland in Asotin, with a graveside committal service to follow at Vineland Cemetery, Clarkston.
