Cara Penkert

Cara Penkert

5/11/1985 — 10/8/2016

Cara lost her 31-year battle with cystic fibrosis but won the battle over death when she went to the arms of Jesus on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at her home. Cara was surrounded by her parents, Bob and Heidi Penkert; brother Nathan Penkert; sister-in-law Lisa Parish; close friend and caregiver Korbin Buckner; hospice nurse Jennifer Haddock-Evans; hospice social worker Mayra Albor; and the Rev. Peggy Harvey-Marose.

Cara was born in San Diego and moved with her family to Lewiston in 1992. She attended school in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School. Cara was an active member of the Tail Twisters 4-H Club. She worked in food service until she needed a lung transplant. Cara received her lung transplant on Sept. 14, 2008, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle. Cara was not able to work again but lived her life as fully as she could. She had many friends that she loved to share time with. Cara was also the kitty mommy to three rescued cats.

Cara was the only daughter and youngest child in the Penkert-Scheib family. She deeply loved her brothers, sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces. Cara is survived by her parents, Bob and Heidi Penkert; brothers Gabe Scheib, Lee Scheib, Gerrit Scheib and Nathan Penkert; sisters-in-law Lisa Parish, Sara Scheib, Leslie Stamper and Kori Penkert; and 10 nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the Penkert family requests that monetary donations be made to www.TransplantHouse.org in Cara's memory.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, 3434 Sixth St., Lewiston. The Rev. Peggy Harvey-Marose will officiate. Lunch will follow the service.

The Penkert Family expresses gratitude to Korbyn Buckner of Choices Care Service/OUI and Jennifer Haddock-Evans of Elite Hospice. We could not have gotten through this without you.

"Owl (I'll) love you forever, I'll like you for always. As long as I'm living, my baby you'll be."
