Carla A. Keener passed away peacefully in her sleep Oct. 15, 2014, at home. She was born May 3, 1928, in Lewiston, to Charles M. and Ann V. Asker. She was the first of four children. She attended Garfield Elementary for grades one through seven. The family moved to Cottonwood to manage the family farm in the 1940s. She attended the eighth grade in Grangeville and finished her schooling at Cottonwood High School. She was very active in school activities, serving as head majorette for the high school band, and participating in other school activities. She graduated in 1946. She attended the North Idaho College of Education, graduating in 1948 with a teaching certificate. She then taught one year in Twin Falls and one year in Stites.
In March 1951, she married Joseph L. Keener in Cottonwood. Joe passed away Sept. 5, 2000.
After the children entered school, Carla was employed by Orchards Lanes as the bookkeeper for 23 years until her retirement.
Joe and Carla enjoyed spending time camping with their good neighbors Bud and Yvonne Fairfield. Carla also enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening, reading, solving crossword puzzles, watching the Mariners and the Seahawks and the color pink.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ann Asker; husband Joe; and son-in-law Steve Ross.
She is survived by her daughters, Cammie Ross, Kelley Seale (Mike), Gina Snodderly (Larry); and sons Russ Keener (Jeannie Laws) and Charlie Keener; grandchildren, Joe Mix, Carly Akin, Jennie Casey and Rhyan Seale; and great-grandchildren Sawyer, Jackson, June, Ethan and Jordan. Carla is also survived by brothers Jim Asker (Cindy) of Bend, Ore., and Gary Asker (Mary) of Lewiston; and sister Tamara Asker-Holt of Clarkston.
