Catherine Jensen, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at the Bridge Assisted Living in Sandpoint, Idaho, at age 92.
Catherine was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Clermont, Iowa, to parents James Cahalan and Jessie Bracken Cahalan. She attended St. Patrick's High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and later graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing with a degree in nursing. She received additional certification in psychiatric nursing form The Menninger School of Psychiatric Nursing in Topeka, Kan.
Catherine spent many years working as a nurse, including as a psych nurse at the Menninger Clinic. After her stint as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to work in 1975. She was the office nurse for Dr. E.G. Hoffman, helping in the health and care of many pregnant mothers.
She met her future husband, Marvin "Bud" Jensen, through relatives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were married in 1948 and shared 67 years of marriage until his death in 2014.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband. She is survived by her three children, Michael (Melanie) Jensen of Lewiston, Mark Jensen of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mauria (Steve) Prince of Sandpoint. She is also survived by grandchildren Connor Jensen and Elizabeth Sonokey of Lewiston and Michele (Zach) Fredrickson of Pullman.
Catherine's inquisitiveness led her to pursue many hobbies. She had an extensive antique button collection and was a past president of the Idaho State Syringa Button Society. Throughout her life, she was involved in many organizations. She enjoyed quilting and crafts.
Catherine had a generous spirit, and was a devoted mother and friend. She will be missed dearly by all she touched.
A funeral Mass to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church. Recitation of the rosary will take place just prior to the funeral at 10 a.m.
