Charlotte "Char" Ann Jones, 94, of Lewiston, passed away of natural causes Monday, July 31, 2017, at home, surrounded by family.

Char was born Nov. 19, 1922, in Valhalla, N.Y., to Ernestine Reinl and George Curtis Lewis.

She grew up in Valhalla, N.Y. She moved to western Washington state and worked as a shipfitter during World War II.

Char met and married James D. Cooksey in 1952. Together they lived in Kennewick for three years before moving to Echo, Ore., for one year. They later moved to the Bountiful/Kaysville, Utah, area for the next five years.

In 1968, Char married Wendell P. Jones and together they resided in West Jordan, Utah, for the next 17 years. They moved to Sumner, Wash., in 1985.

In 1994, Char moved to Lewiston with her partner, Walter Schmidt (deceased). She resided there until her death.

Char attended the New Bridges Community Church, where she had many friends and acquaintances. She loved to travel and meet new people as well as spend time with family. She enjoyed volunteering to help her daughters, Wendy and Jodi, with the Special Olympics.

Char is survived by sons James G. (Charmayne) Cooksey of Henderson, Nev., Dan Cooksey of Clarkston and Doug (Tina) Jones of Caldwell; daughters Linnette Scorzato of Puyallup, Wash., Wendy Jones of Lewiston and foster daughter Jodi Boles of Lewiston; her companion and best friend, Bill Morgan of Pomeroy; along with seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouses, daughter-in-law Sherrie Cooksey and son-in-law Roggie Scorzato.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Bridges Community Church, 2102 Eighth St., Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Lewis-Clark Special Olympics, P.O. Box 2175, Lewiston, ID 83501.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Suzie Hamilton and Cheryl Thomason for their selflessness, love, support and compassion. Another thanks goes to St. Joseph Hospital and Hospice for the special care and kindness.
