Cheryl went to be with her heavenly Father on Oct. 11, 2014. She passed away at home.
She was born Sept. 23, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash., to Derwood Stevens and Thelma (Hall) Stevens.
She grew up in Coeur d'Alene and graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School. She attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where she studied nursing. She married Douglas Joel
McAtee on Dec. 5, 1964, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Idaho Falls. They settled in Lewiston in 1969. They had nine children together. The marriage later ended in divorce.
After her divorce, Cheryl decided to return to college at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, where she obtained her registered nursing degree and her bachelor of science in nursing, fulfilling her dream of becoming a nurse. She spent several years working with the elderly in nursing homes throughout the valley and later taught certified nursing assistant classes at LCSC until her death.
Cheryl is survived by her brothers, Larry of Spokane, Marvin of Mattawa, Wash., and Clint of Hayden, Idaho; and also by her children, Steven of Lewiston, Roger of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Kenneth of Lewiston, Jennifer of Clarkston, Peter of Phoenix, Gregory of Clarkston, Rebecca of Phoenix and Jeffery of Lewiston; as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Max and James; her sisters, Louie Jean, Donna and Karolyn; and her son, David.
Cheryl loved all of her family very much and will be greatly missed by all. We love you mom and miss you.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center at Ninth Street and Preston Avenue in Lewiston, with a graveside service to follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.
