Dixie Browning went to be with our Lord on Monday, Sept. 5, 2016.
She was born April 13, 1920, in Crane, Mo. Her family moved to the Juliaetta area when she was in her late teens. While there, she was reintroduced to a young man, also from Missouri, Jack Browning. They were married July 16, 1938.
From their union was born a daughter, Montez, and a son, Gary. They finally settled down in Juliaetta and spent the rest of their time together there.
Mom and dad were instrumental in starting Browning Cut Stock in Juliaetta, which is still run by family.
Mom was a member of the Evergreen Friendship Club and a charter member of the Hill and Valley Garden Club. She loved being a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, and her house was always open to all of them.
Mom had a fantastic sense of humor and could always see the lighter side of life until her health made it too difficult.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, who died in 1997; her parents, Eva Wilson Peters and Warren Peters of Missouri; sisters Bonnie and Louise; and brother Ted.
Survivors are her brother Rex and sister Joanne Norris (Bob), both from Missouri; many nephews and nieces; her daughter,
Dixie Montez Steigers (David); her son, Jack Gary Browning (Sally); grandsons Danny Steigers (Patty), Rick Steigers (Lynnese), Galen Browning (Trudie); and granddaughter Glyna Browning, all of Juliaetta. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Mom moved to Unique Senior Care in the Lewiston Orchards in June 2015, where she passed away. Her care there was totally wonderful. She was treated just like family there. It's a very, very wonderful place.
Also, a big thank you to Lewiston Hospice and Home Health. Continued prayers for mom will be greatly appreciated. There will be a private interment at a later date.
