Donald J. Manderfeld, 88, formerly of Uniontown and recently of Pullman, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016, at Avalon Care Center in Pullman.

Don was born June 3, 1928, in Genesee to Henry and Anna Manderfeld. He attended Genesee Catholic grade school and graduated from Genesee High School. He moved to Moscow and started working at the Moscow Idahonian right after school. He worked in the print shop for the Idahonian. In 1978, he married the love of his life, Virginia (Heatherly) Manderfeld. They then moved to Uniontown, where they made their home. He then went to work at Washington State University in the publications department, known as the print shop, with the linotype machine.

Don was the youngest of six children. Don helped care for his mother and six siblings in their later years. He loved raising a big garden that he always shared. Don blessed the lives of others around him. He was the most giving man around. He loved spending time helping Virginia with canning and freezing. He also volunteered at the Uniontown sausage feeds. Don always loved his dogs.

After retiring, Don and Virginia moved and made their home in Clarkston until four years ago, when he moved to Pullman assisted living, where he resided until his death.

While he had no children of his own, he inherited three children from his wife, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many relatives. He loved spending time with his new family, going on picnics, camping and family time.

He is survived by his three stepchildren, daughters Debi Boller and husband Floyd of Tri-Cities, Wash., Sharon Newell of Billings, Mont., and son Dale Lawson and wife Debby of Pullman; nine grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He also has numerous nieces and nephews and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Virginia; as well as his sisters, Dorothy Manderfeld-Wolf, Bernice Manderfeld-Miller, Irene Hickman and Mary Catherine Manderfeld; and one brother, Ormand Manderfeld.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Genesee. A private burial will take place at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Genesee.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston is assisting the family with arrangements.
