Douglas A. Sorensen

11/15/1927 — 12/6/2015

Douglas Allen Sorenson passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital at the age of 88, of complications of pneumonia.

Douglas was born Nov. 15, 1927, in Apollonia, Wis. He lived in that area throughout his childhood and graduated from high school in Bruce, Wis., in 1946. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and served in Alaska most of his time. Upon returning home from his service duty, he wasted no time in marrying his high school sweetheart, Patricia Grace Morning. They were married Sept. 24, 1949.

A machinist by trade, he found his dream job at the Speer Bullet factory in Lewiston. So in the summer of 1960, we all packed up and moved to Lewiston. He worked for Speer until 1977, when they moved to Silverdale, Wash., where he went to work for the government as a civilian. Not being able to stand the wet weather day in and out, he took a job in Elk City with Bennett Lumber. He retired in 1995, and he and Pat moved to Grangeville. In 1996, his wife of 46 years passed away. Later that year, he married Joetta Meade and they made their home at Grangeville and the surrounding areas.

Douglas was born to Carl Alfred and Blanche Ardena (Moon) Sorenson. He grew up with a brother, Grant, and two sisters, Marie Pitt of Ladysmith, Wis., and Shirley (Glen) Bacon of Brazil.

Douglas is survived by his wife, Joetta, at their home in Clarkston. Also surviving are two stepsons, Rodney Meade of Centralia, Wash., and Hager Meade of Clarkston.

Also surviving him are three daughters, Martha Lindsay of Nampa, Mary (Jim) Faerber of Moscow and Ruth (Dan) Bailey of Bend, Ore.

He is also survived by three granddaughters, Sandy (Chris) Miller, Stephanie (Steve) Legeman and Sara Hendren; also, three great-granddaughters and one great grandson, Jade Ellsworth-Keeney, Fianna Grace Miller, Hailey Legeman and Khol Ellsworth.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Pat; a son, James Allen in 2004; and his brother, Grant, in 2008.

A private family service will be held on Thursday with a public memorial service to be held in January. Vassar-Rawls Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
