E. Maxine Yochum

Edna Maxine Yochum passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.

She was born Aug. 20, 1927, to Ben and Carrie Gibbs of Lapwai.

Maxine grew up at Arrow Junction and graduated from Lapwai High School. She met the love of her life, Ronald Yochum, at a dance, and they were married Nov. 2, 1946. They moved to Peola and then resided in the Clarkston Heights, where they raised three children. Maxine managed a dress shop called Hughes (later changed to the Diana Shop) for many years.

After retirement, she became an active member of the Moose Lodge in Clarkston. She loved to play bingo, dance and socialize. Ron and Maxine would travel every year in their motor home to Yuma, Ariz., where they would spend the winter. Maxine loved to watch football and work in the garden. She also enjoyed quilting, macrame and crocheting. She was such a wonderful and sweet person. She will truly be missed.

Maxine is survived by her son, Dale R. Yochum of Clarkston; daughter Katherine Edwardsen (Boyd Harrison) of Clarkston; and brother Roy (Betty) Gibbs of Lapwai. She also is survived by grandchildren Ron Yochum (Lindsay) of Colorado, Blake (Eva) Mellom of Florida, Colleen Wickizer (Jerry) of Lewiston and Wendy Yochum (Trent Hollingsworth) of Lewiston. She also has many great-grandchildren who she loved very much.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Yochum, and their son Lanny Yochum. She also was preceded in death by brothers Dick, Don and Vern Gibbs and her sister, Katherine Kress.

There will be a burial service at a later date.
