Elva E. Hewett

Elva E. Hewett

12/6/1919 — 8/15/2017

Elva E. Hewett, 97, of Culdesac, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, at Living Springs Residential Care in Lewiston.

Elva was born Dec. 6, 1919, at Seattle to Homer and Laura (Perkins) Eaton and moved to the Cloverland area when she was 3 with her parents and older brother, Howard. She attended schools in Cloverland, Asotin and Clarkston and she graduated from Mounce's Beauty School in Lewiston.

She married the love of her life, Earl Hewett, in 1938 at the Pilgrim Congregational Church in Lewiston. They would have celebrated their 79th wedding anniversary on Aug. 27. They moved in 1943 from Clarkston to Culdesac, where they farmed for 25 years and worked construction throughout the Northwest for several years.

Mom was a wonderful wife and mother to her two children, Sharon and Jerry. She was very loving and positive, never met anyone she didn't like and was always willing to do her part, no matter what the request. She drove grain trucks in harvest, pulled trailers in construction and fixed the Culdesac ladies' hair. She loved animals, flowers and hummingbirds. She also loved her family, becoming a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, and delighted in all their company.

Elva and Earl loved to travel in their fifth wheel, seeing most of the Western and Midwestern states. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, square dancing, fishing and camping, bird watching, attending her grandchildren's activities and watching baseball on television.

Elva was a past member of the Culdesac Rebekah Lodge, the Culdesac Garden Club and the original 49ers Saddle Club in Spalding and was a member of the Culdesac Community Church.

Elva was preceded in death by her parents, brother Howard, and grandson Curtis. She is survived by her loving husband, Earl; son Jerry (Maureen); daughter Sharon Wilkins (Dave); five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family asks that any memorial gifts be made to the Culdesac Community Church or for Alzheimer's research.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Vineland Cemetery.
