On Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, Faye found peace as she passed to a greater life. She struggled for many years with abdominal and respiratory issues.
Faye was born to Charles and Nina Herman on Dec. 29, 1931, in Lewiston at the White Hospital. She grew up and attended school in the Lewiston area with her four siblings. She enjoyed working and earning money, and found her love of baby-sitting and children at a young age.
In 1953, a handsome young professional baseball player came to town to begin playing with the Lewiston Broncs. Faye was working as a hostess at the Bollinger Hotel and their courtship began, and on Oct. 16, 1954, she married Richard Derganc in Clarkston. Together, they had one daughter and were married nearly 60 years.
After spending their first 12 years of marriage in California, they decided to move back to Lewiston, and then on to Genesee, where they raised their daughter. Upon retirement, they settled in the warmer climate of Lewiston. Faye always enjoyed trips to the casino, cards and bowling and had much success as a bowler over the years.
Her true joy was watching her daughter, and later her granddaughter, play sports. This activity alone kept her going for the past decade.
Faye is survived by her husband, Richard Derganc at their Lewiston home; their daughter, Darce Vassar (Bob); granddaughter Katie (14); brother George Herman (Beatrice) of Lewiston; sisters Betty Bennett of Genesee, Bonnie Long and Lillie Mae Fleishman, both of Lewiston; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens, Seventh Street and Cedar Avenue, Lewiston. A luncheon gathering for family and friends will be held immediately following the service at Bob, Darce and Katie Vassar's home.
Donations in the memory of Faye Derganc may be made to All Saints Catholic School, 641 Fifth Ave., Lewiston, ID 83501.
