Gene Ring

Mr. Gene Ring went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at his son’s home in Cortez, Colo. Gene died of pancreatic cancer. Gene was born Aug. 31, 1944, to Blanche Myrtle Reed in Topeka, Kan.

Maude Norris, Gene’s foster mother had Gene in her home from 16-18 years old. He had eight foster siblings and the two daughters of Maudes to help look after him. Gene quit school in his junior year. Maude and Gene found each other again in 1970 and visited each other frequently. Gene was then adopted when he was 18 years old by Jewel and Thomas Ring, both have passed.

Mr. Gene got a diploma from Grossmont Adult Trade School in welding. He had his own water pump business and was noted for twitching water, he was noted for accuracy with number of gallons and location of water. He worked many years for Excell Trucking as a semi driver, until retirement. He then started camp hosting at Fish Creek above Grangeville, he loved this job.

He married Loretta Ring, which ended in divorce. They had four children: Gene Ring Jr., of Cortez, Sharon Ring, of Price Utah; Ray Ring, of Wellington, Utah and George Ring, of Salt Lake City.

He married the love of his life, Jean Herring, Sept. 9, 1989, at the Orchards Church of Nazarene, in Lewiston. They both loved the Lord and worked in the church where needed. They always gave to others in need. Their love of the Lord always reflected in the way they lived. They loved to travel, to camp, fish and visit family. The ultimate trip was an Alaskan Cruise which they loved. They were married for 23 years until Jean’s passing on March 3, 2013.

Gene met Betty Gano a special friend and companion. They enjoyed traveling and going to church together. Betty helped with caregiving when needed and he for her as well.

Mr. Gene loved photography and videography, fishing and traveling in RVs, helping in church and others and camp hosting.

Gene was preceded in death by his mother, Blanche Myrtle Reed; ex-wife Loretta Ring; wife, Jean Ring; parents, Jewel and Thomas Ring; father-in-law and mother-in-law Keith and Eva Herring; sister-in-law Joy Noel; niece Well Michaels; and brother-in-law Bill VanThiel.

He is survived by his sister-in-law, Lynn VanThiel, of Lewiston; children: Gene Ring Jr., Ray Ring, George Ring, Sharon Ring; Jim and Becky Dargitz, of Maple Valley, Wash.; niece Susan Dargitz, of Cora, Wash.; niece Laurie VanThiel, of Seattle; and nephew Keith VanThiel, of Seattle.

Thank you to Dr. Midence and staff — so caring and helped with all excellent care and follow up. Dr. Harris, urologist. Lewiston Transitional Care of Cascadia all staff, gave excellent care and follow through — above and beyond. Pasco Southwest Hospice in Cortez — especially to Sarah, R.N. Pastor Curt Blackwell of the Lewiston Orchards Church of the Nazarene and Pastor Jan Elle Hoffman of Cortez Church of the Nazarene. Special thank you to Becky Dang who came and stayed with Mr. Gene and cooked his favorite food. Gene Ring Jr., who made four trips to Idaho to provide full care for his dad in hospice. Dennis Hastings at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home for going above and beyond.

There will be a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Friday, July 19, at the Lewiston Orchards Church of the Nazarene, 347 Thain Road, Lewiston.

Mr. Gene has requested that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made in his name to the Lewiston Orchards Church of the Nazarene.
