Gen Morris died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, from age-related causes at Prestige Rehabilitation and Care Center Orchards, where she resided for six years.
Gen was born June 25, 1922, in Del Norte, Colo., to Edith and Frank Schmidt. She was raised with her four sisters and two brothers on a farm in Colorado's San Luis Valley. She graduated from Del Norte High School in 1940 and then attended Adams State College in Alamosa, Colo.
While in college, she met Robert "Bob" Morris and married him on June 12, 1944. He would be her husband for 66 years. Gen graduated from college in 1945. Bob joined the National Park Service in 1948, and he and Gen along with their two children had assignments at national monuments and national parks in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Tennessee and
Idaho. Bob retired in 1980 with 32 years of service after serving as superintendent of the Nez Perce National Historical Park. He and Gen decided to remain in Lewiston.
Gen was always engaged in doing different arts and crafts projects as well as sewing and embroidery. She and Bob enjoyed playing bridge, dancing at the Elks Lodge and traveling. She was active in what was then St. James Catholic Church.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Katherine and Ann-Marie; her husband Bob; and her grandson Stephen.
Gen is survived by her sisters Yvonne and Marilyn; her brothers Richard and Eugene; numerous nieces and nephews; her daughter Margaret; son-in-law Rudy; grandson Arthur; and her son Kenneth.
Cremation has occurred. A service will be held at a later date. Any memorial remembrances should be given in the form of a contribution to Valley Meals on Wheels.
