Gerald (Jed) Grimm passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, of congestive heart failure, at Life Care Center of Lewiston at age 91.
He was born Oct. 26, 1923, in Portland, Ore. The family moved back to Lewiston around 1929, where his father went to work at the new mill. Jed attended Lewiston schools and graduated. He went to work at Potlatch Forests Inc. for a couple of years and then went into the U.S. Navy in March 1943, during World War II. He trained in the submarine service but served mainly on a sub-tender. He was discharged in February 1946.
He retuned to Potlatch after leaving the service and went into lumber grading. After a time there, he was hired by Western Wood Products, where he worked as a grading inspector until he retired at age 65.
Jed loved fishing, hunting and hiked into many creeks and lakes of northern Idaho to fish with friends and brothers. After retirement, he started playing golf with several other high school friends on a weekly basis. Jed was also a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge.
Jed was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Ruby Grimm; brothers Melvin (wife Florence), Harvey (surviving wife Carlie) and Dale (surviving wife Pat); and sister Velma (Gordon Diehl).
He is survived by brothers Raymond and Georgia of Lewiston and Earl and Barbara in the Seattle area. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. April 11 at Normal Hill Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at Church of New Hope, 1423 Powers Ave., Lewiston, after the service.
