Jerry was born April 13, 1936, at Lewiston, to Mabell "Babe" and Henry "Hank" Paris, joining his older brother, Ken, at their family home at South Eighth Street in Clarkston.
In 1942, the family moved to Portland, Ore., for Hank to work in the shipyards during the war. They returned to South Eighth Street in 1945, and Jerry lived there until he graduated in 1955.
While Jerry was in high school, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was very proud of his grand champion steer and of winning showing and fitting. His senior year was very busy, working at Safeway in Lewiston and school activities. He continued working at Safeway for a total of eight years.
After graduation, he and Claudine Osborn were married and made their home in Clarkston with daughter LeAnne and son Craig. The marriage ended in divorce in 1962.
Jerry worked for a short time for Lewiston Water Department before going to work at Potlatch Forests Inc. in 1964. He worked his way from pulling on the green chain to supervisor, and retired after 27 years.
On May 20, 1966, he married Betty Magallon, and they moved west of Clarkston to make their home and help Betty's parents on their ranch. Their son Jim was born in December 1969. Many wonderful memories were made on the ranch. Betty and Jerry belonged to the Holy Family Parish in Clarkston and the Holy Rosary Parish in Pomeroy, where Jerry joined the Knights of Columbus and attained the rank of third degree. In 1985, they moved to Clarkston and built their home on 12th Avenue to be closer to work and school activities, and bowling.
He retired from Potlatch Corp. in 1991 on a Thursday and started working for the Clarkston School District the following Monday as a custodian.
Betty started their business of Cedar and Silk in 1994, and after three years the business grew so much that Jerry left the school district to help Betty full time. Their business took them to many states where they met so many people. After 12 years, they sold the business and joined K.M. Resorts of America, where they were employed as camp hosts at Travel Inn RV Park at Elma, Wash., from 2008 to June 2011. They then retired and enjoyed more traveling until 2013. Jerry was an avid Seahawks fan and hardly ever missed watching a game.
In the many years of traveling, they met great people and spectacular places, both camping with their Blue Mountain Good Samaritan family as well as cruises and day drives; all with great memories.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty; son Jim (Judy) of Nampa; daughter LeAnne (Leigh) Anderson of Portland, Ore.; son Craig (Cindy) of Newport, R.I.; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers Dick (Carolyn) of Heppner, Ore., and Mike of Dayton, Wash.
The rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Vineland Cemetery, and a luncheon will be provided at the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, Jerry requested that any donations be made to Summit Pacific Hospital, 600 Main St., Elma, WA 98541.
