Gordon “Gordy” Murphy Roeder, 76, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston. Gordon was born July 1, 1947, in Portland, Ore., to Margaret “Peggy” and John “Jack” Roeder.
His family, including his younger brother, John “Nick” Roeder, moved to Lewiston when he was in junior high. Graduating in 1965 from Lewiston High School, he enrolled in Lewis-Clark State College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1972, in Germany. After the service he went to work for Paul Nolt at Lolo Sporting Goods in Lewiston, became manager, and worked there until it closed, 35 years.
He met and married Janet Snyder in 1974, gaining three stepchildren, Moreesa Roeder, Bruce Carlson and Aaron Carlson. In 1978, his daughter, Jaclyn Ruth Roeder was born. He divorced in 1984, but remained friends until his death.
Gordon was an expert on guns, an avid trap and skeet shooter, shooting all over the Northwest. He had many hobbies such as breaking horses for people in his free time. Others were bird hunting and fly fishing with his dog Penny any chance he got, especially up on Kelly Creek, Clearwater, Snake and Grand Ronde rivers.
Gordon is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn Broncheau (Mark), of Lewiston; stepchildren Moreesa Sandquist (Kevin), of Troy, Bruce Carlson (Krista), of Leaf River, Ill., and Aaron Carlson (Pam), of Mountain Home, Idaho; brother John (Nick) Roeder, of Clarkston; grandchildren Kurtis Koser, of Portland, Reillee Simmons (Roy), of Lewiston, Jazmyn Roy, of Walla Walla, Avery Porter, of Lewiston; great-grandchild Enzo Blunt, of Lewiston; and ex-wife Janet Snyder, of Lewiston; good friends, Fred Schmidt and Jim Bangart.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date. Any donations may be made to Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston to help the family with funeral costs.
