On Thursday, July 31, 2025, longtime Moscow resident Janice Jean Shoop joined her loved ones that have passed on before her.
Janice was born in Harvey, N.D., on April 8, 1939, to Robert and Alma (Dockter) Heitmann. She was the eldest of three siblings, including a brother, Robert “Bobby,” and a sister, Kathleen.
Growing up a farm girl, Janice embraced the virtue and reward of hard work while helping her dad harvest the fields and taking care of her ailing mother. In her adult life, Janice worked in a variety of businesses, always committed to providing excellent service to customers.
Janice married Alvin Hanneman in 1956. Together, they had three children, Timothy, Debra and Jodell. The family moved to Moscow in 1968. The couple later divorced.
Janice married Norman (Rusty) Shoop in 1973. Janice and Rusty shared a love of fishing, camping, bowling, golf, travel and country western music. Rusty passed away in 1991.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bobby, husband Rusty, and great-granddaughter Hannah Moore. She is survived by her sister Kathy Hutchens (Mike); her three children, Tim Hanneman, Debbie Waldron (Bob) and Jodi Hoff (Doral); grandchildren Valerie Moore (Sam), Melanie Waldron (Chris Schwartz), Magda Hoff (Jay Periarce), Brysen Hoff and Gwyneth Hanneman; three great-grandchildren with one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family is planning a private memorial to honor their beloved Janice at a later date.
