John Edward Ready passed away peacefully Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016, at his home in Lewiston. John was born Aug. 14, 1933, in Yakima, to Stanton G. Ready and Laurella Farthing Ready. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Alabama, where they lived for several years. They returned to Idaho and lived at Cascade. They then moved on to Moscow, Coeur d'Alene, Boise, Winchester and Lewiston.
After graduating from Lewiston High School in 1952, John attended the University of Idaho for one year. Then, as a guest of the U.S. Army, he spent one year, 10 months and 11 days at beautiful Fort Hood, Texas. He met Loretta Genevieve Kaschmitter on a blind date at Lewiston in 1955. They married in 1957 at Cottonwood, where they made their first home and acquired all their children, Joseph, Mark, Lori, Lisa, John (Jack) and Patrick.
John worked as a disc jockey at KORT Radio as well as the Job Corps. He went back to finish his degree in communications, graduating from the University of Idaho in 1970. The family then moved to Kamiah. Less than a year later, the family moved to Lewiston. He worked at Lewiston Grain Growers for more than 15 years, as well other businesses over the preceding years, but never moved from Lewiston.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; his children, Joe Ready, Mark and Rene Ready, Lori and Chuck Bierhaus, Lisa and Mark Brazington, and Jack and Margaret Ready; and his grandchildren, Gabrielle and Aaron Decicio, Luke and Sandy Brazington, Alexandra Ready, Veronica Ready and Anna Ready. He also had three great-grandchildren, Lily Decicio, Agnes Brazington and Luke Patrick Brazington.
He was preceded in death by his son, Pat.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor and a phenomenal memory for names and places. But of all the things he'd done in his life, I believe he was most proud of and enjoyed most his family. For good or bad, a child's first and strongest example of what a man is and does is their father. Near the end, Dad worried he hadn't been the perfect husband and father; he wasn't. Nobody ever is! However, if you measure his accomplishments, like being married to the same woman for 58 years, and how his children turned out, he was definitely a success. We'll miss you, Dad.
His rosary will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at All Saints Catholic Church. The funeral Mass will follow immediately. If anyone wishes to make a donation in John's memory, the family requests it be made to All Saints Catholic School.
