Joseph George Schumaker died Friday, May 29, 2015, and was born to Robert Lawrence Schumaker and Betty Lou (Tady) Schumaker on May 4, 1966. Joe grew up on the family farm at Mission Creek (Slickpoo) and attended primary and secondary school in Culdesac. He attended college at the University of Idaho and Lewis-Clark State College.
Joe suffered from a serious malady in the form of a brain tumor, which challenged him throughout his life.
Joe was gifted with a loving, caring, warm personality that touched all who came into his life. He was the "poster child" for one who never complained about the hardships imposed on him and was extremely thankful for those who cared for him. He was especially thankful for his mother, who unconditionally cared for him, and Kindred Health Care.
Joe often said his entire family was special to him and was very thankful for all the moral support each family member gave.
Joe was proud of his Irish ancestry and could bring to mind an Irish ditty, humor or a song at the "snap of a finger."
Joe is survived by his siblings, Mel R. Schumaker (Sharon), Fred J. Schumaker, Marilyn L. Beardman (Bill), Thomas L. Schumaker (Karen), and Anita F. Huff (Kevin).
Joe was preceded in death by his father when Joe was 5 years of age, and his mother in 2008.
Joe was a member of the Catholic Church. Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai. A celebration of life Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai. Interment will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.
