LaVerne Scriven, 90, of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Lewiston.
LaVerne was born March 11, 1925, in Blythe, Calif. He lived in Nevada City, Calif., as a child with his older sister Leona and younger brother Jack. He moved to Idaho in 1941 and in 1943 at age 18, LaVerne was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a medic with the 104th infantry in Germany. He returned to Idaho after the war ended in 1945.
In 1959, LaVerne married Norma Creswell, who had two sons, Jon and Mark, and a daughter, Cindy. LaVerne and Norma had a daughter, Susan, and a son, Richard. They later divorced. He was employed at Potlatch Corp. from 1947 until 1987, when he retired.
LaVerne loved to hunt and fish, and was an avid bowler and a member of a local bowling league for many years.
He is survived by his brother, Jack; his daughter, Susan (Scriven) Hauntz; and his son, Richard.
No memorial service will be held at LaVerne's request.
