Aug. 16, 1919 -
June 17, 2016
On Friday, June 17, 2016, Dad finally left to go camping, fishing and hunting with many of his longtime friends, many of whom have been waiting for him for many years. I know he's glad to see them again.
Lloyd E. Livengood was born Aug. 16, 1919, in Lapwai, the third child of Urban and Winifred Livengood. He died peacefully at Royal Plaza Retirement Center in Lewiston after years of fighting several forms of cancer.
Dad grew up in Lapwai and was a teenager during the Great Depression of the 1930s. He told of being able to take the bus to Lewiston, going to a movie, buying a hamburger and a coke, all for 25 cents during those years. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after World War II broke out, served four years and was honorably discharged in 1945.
On his return to Lapwai, he met and married Anna Rose Damo. Dad and Anna were married for 26 years and had two children, Stan and Nickie. They divorced in 1971. In 1972, Dad met and married Marjorie Howe, a well-known wedding photographer in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. They were married until Marge's death in 2001.
Dad spent the majority of his working years at (what was then) Potlatch Forests Inc. He told many stories of the log drives on the upper Clearwater River and the various jobs he performed while working at the Lewiston mill. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his time off, camping and fishing in the beautiful forests of northern Idaho. Dad made friends easily and would run into people he had met nearly any place he traveled. We were amazed that, at 96 years old, he still had more friends than most people half his age. His passing created a void in the "Jack in the Box Gang," (Jack, George, Herman, Marvin, Jim, Bob, Larry, Dennis, Ron, Ellen, Louise and several who left before him) where he would meet for coffee and a lot of bull nearly every morning.
After Marge's death, Judy and Ruben Junes gave Dad a dachshund pup named Toby. This little dog became Dad's reason for living as long as he did, and it wasn't until Toby passed away that Dad wanted to leave his house and move into Royal Plaza. Dad quickly made new friends at Royal Plaza, but in the short amount of time he had there, he would often talk of missing his little dog.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Stan (Arlonne) Livengood and Nickie (Gary) Wold; granddaughter Stephanie (Carl) Meitl; great-grandchildren Nathan and Alexis Meitl; brother Howard Livengood and sister-in-law Inge Livengood; and many nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; parents Urban and Winnie; sister Pauline; brothers Roscoe "Sonny," Roy, Don; and stepson Tom Calvert.
Dad's family would like to thank all the staff at Royal Plaza for their care and kindness during Dad's last few months. We would also like to thank Sandy, Resa and all the caring people at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's Family Hospice and Palliative Care for helping Lloyd make his final journey with dignity and grace.
Dad, we miss you every day.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home with a luncheon to follow at the Eagles Lodge, 1304 Main St., Lewiston.
