On June 6th, 2020 Louis Mitchell Perkins, went home to meet the Lord. He was born August 13, 1935 in Lewiston, Idaho. He lived in Lewiston until he graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Electrical Engineering. At 20 he married Sonja NaLova Drevlow on October 15, 1955. He worked his way through college as a journeyman electrician attending the University of Idaho, graduating in 1963 with a BS in Electrical Engineering. In 1957 his first son Louis Jay Perkins was born. He moved his family to Portland, Oregon in 1963 where he began his engineering career. In 1964 his second son, Jonathan Drevlow Perkins was born in Portland. He moved his family to Spokane, Washington in the summer of 1964 where he worked for one year at Electric Smith.
After a year in Spokane he brought his family back to Portland which remained his home until his passing.
He worked at various engineering firms gaining experience and then started Perkins Engineering in 1972 fulfilling a lifelong goal of having his own company. He ran a successbusiness until he retired in 2003.
Louie, as his family called him, is survived by his wife Sonja, his children Louie Jay and Jon, grandchildren Louie G Perkins, Kirsten Perkins, and Joshua Perkins from Louie Jay and his wife Madelon, along with grandchildren Nathan Perkins, Chad Perkins, Megan Wright, and Sara Schimke from Jon and his wife Karen. He also has 3 great grandchildren Joel Deluna, Noah Deluna, and Louis Clive Perkins. He is also survived by his brother Donald Perkins, many nieces, nephews, and brother and sister in-laws as well as friends from his many years at St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Throughout his life he cared deeply for his family and provided strong leadership and care for his loving wife of 64 years, Sonja. He loved his grandchildren, taking considerable time to visit and spend time with them over the years. He loved a good gathering and was known for his generosity in many fun family gatherings and meals.
Louie loved fixing things and there are many stories of him helping fix things for his children, grandchildren, and neighbors. Louie J and Jon have great memories of many Lewiston trips, fun vacations, and seeing the 50th All Star Baseball game in Seattle as a family.
His passing has left a huge hole in our hearts and he will be deeply missed.
