3/21/1920 — 1/3/2019

Heaven gained another poker player Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. Luigi “Louie” Greco passed peacefully at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, with his family present.

Louie was born March 21, 1920, to Joseph and Mary Pecora Greco. He attended Lewiston schools, served his country as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, and he worked at the Camas Prairie Railroad for more than 40 years. He also worked weekends at Miles Gas Station.

He met the love of his life at a dance, and they danced through 70 years together. On Jan. 21, 1947, he married Moureen Herman at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lewiston. He was devoted to his wife and family, his church and God. Most recently, Louie was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church. He loved to fish and taught his grandsons the art of fishing after he retired. He enjoyed golf and loved to play poker with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and all of his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his children, Geralyn M. (Terry Taylor) Vance of Spokane, Mary Louise (Joel) Nitcy of McCall, Karen M. (James) Phillips of Jordan, Utah, and Joseph C. Greco (Michele Minkle) and Cynthia M. (Aaron) Clark, all of Lewiston. He leaves 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Esther Herman, and many nieces and nephews.

The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens. A lunch will be served afterward at All Saints Catholic Church.

Nick and Jennifer Menegas

What a beautiful tribute to Luigi, your great father. I only got to meet him once, but the genuine love he had for everyone he met shined through his twinkly eyes. Your family was very blessed by this hard working, honest, good servant father. May his soul be in heaven soon with your mother. We are sorry we won't be there to honor him at his service, but our thoughts are with you. All our love, Nick and Jennifer Menegas
