Maurice W. Sauer passed away peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on Friday, April 3 2015, at Life Care Center of Lewiston. He was born to William and Katherine (Diemert) Sauer on March 26, 1925, at Eckelson, N.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
He was married to Gudrun Mikkelsen on June 23, 1947, in Valley City, N.D. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; three daughters, Karen (Bill) Phares, Shirley (Bruce) Thompson and Patti Garred; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as one brother and three sisters.
Maurice served in the infantry during World War II, from 1943 to 1946, and received the Purple Heart. He was injured in France and spent several months in hospitals in England and the United States.
Maurice and his family spent many enjoyable years following construction work in the Pacific Northwest, settling in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley in 1965. He was a heavy equipment operator and a member of the Operating Engineers Local No. 370.
In retirement, he and his wife spent 30 wonderful years traveling in their motor home visiting relatives and friends and seeing the sights of America.
Maurice was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Eagles and Moose lodges.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Church. Memorials may be made to the Holy Family School or Clarkston Senior Center.
