Melva D. Grinstead

Married for 63 years to Donald Grinstead, she was a loving mother, homemaker and wife. She spent her entire life giving everything to raising her children and caring for her family. When her kids were grown and left home, she continued to nurture and give love and life by caring for the children of several other families as a baby sitter and nanny for many years. Those who knew her understand what a gift she was, always thinking of others first. Her thoughtful, unceasing selflessness showed in all that she touched. Caring for others is what brought her joy and she did it so well.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; her son, Jeffrey; her son, Christopher; granddaughter Jolene; and great-grandson Derek.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy.

Her wishes were to be cremated, and the cremation took place Friday. A private farewell was held Thursday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. The family is grateful for all the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
