Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Mildred E. Hamilton passed away in her sleep peacefully on Jan. 12, 2016.
Mildred lived a long and adventurous life that spanned more than 102 years.
Mildred was born Aug. 20, 1913, on the family farm at Central Ridge to Charles and Dola Coon.
She attended high school in Nez-perce and Orofino before transferring to Clarkston High School her senior year, where she graduated in 1931. She completed a two-year teaching program from Lewis-Clark State College in 1933 and went to work as a school teacher for two years on Central Ridge.
Mildred met and then married Leslie E. Hamilton Nov. 2, 1935, at Lewiston. Their daughter, Patsy C. Hamilton, was born in October 1938. They farmed until 1950 when they moved to Lewiston. Prior to moving to Lewiston they bought interest in the Lewis Clark Market; they became active in the operation after moving to town. Mildred became the bookkeeper but found she needed more knowledge and went back to college for courses in bookkeeping and graduated with high marks. After selling the Lewis Clark Market, Mildred became employed as an employment consultant at Idaho Job Service from 1961 to 1975 until early retirement due to health issues.
Mildred enjoyed traveling. Her travels took her to Japan, Singapore, Europe, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. She was a member of many organizations, the First Christian Church in Nez-
perce, the First Christian Church in Lewiston, Soroptomist International of Lewiston and Clarkston, the Idaho Employment Security Agency Retirees Association and a lifetime member of AARP. She was a very active member of the Orchards Christian Church until health issues prevented her from continuing. She served as the president of her condo association for 20 years. She enjoyed the Lewiston Civic Theatre and also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Mildred is survived by her daughter Patsy Hamilton Fisher; four grandchildren, Susan (Rick) Randall, Tracy Johnson, Tina Johnson and Steven Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Nilson, Cayle Johnson, Bradley Johnson and Roen Randall; seven great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Leslie Ann Rake, and three nephews, Wally Hamilton, Oscar Baumhoff and Ellis Olson.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband and sister Bernetta Greenlaw and brother Donald Coon.
Mildred's advice to living a long life was to focus on the positive and always wear a smile.
Mildred's memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date.
