Olive Odessa Hammond, 96, of Lewiston, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, of natural causes at her daughter’s home. She was born to Delbert and Lottie Hawk on Jan. 17, 1929, at American Falls, Idaho. She was the eighth of 13 children and the only girl.
Olive graduated from Clarkston High School in 1946. She married Vernon Roy Hammond on April 14, 1952.
Olive worked at McPherson’s grocery for eight years, Fleaners for three years, and then started a business driving her own ice cream cart and delivering summertime treats for 14 years.
Olive loved gardening and crossword puzzles. She attended New Life Apostolic Church.
Olive is survived by her brother David Hawk (Patricia); daughter Verna Allison (Robert E.); son Charles Hammond; grandchildren: Rosalie Frazier (Sam), Odessa Clark (Timothy), Robert J. Allison, Bradley and Bryan Hammond, Jason Hammond, and Lexi and Cara Sorensen; 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her death are her husband Vernon R. Hammond; parents Delbert and Lottie Hawk; her children: Richard Hammond, Gary Hammond, stepson Larry Hammond; and 11 of her brothers: Wilbur, Merlin, Derrel, Keith, Valworth, Charlie, Alvalee, Delbert, Kenneth, James and Joseph.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at New Life Apostolic Church, 1010 21st Ave., Lewiston; final resting place at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens.
