Ronald Vincent Harlow passed away Thursday, May 19, 2015, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston, at the age of 79, from pneumonia, a complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Ronald was born March 14, 1936, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center to William J. Harlow and Emily Coleman Harlow. He attended grade school at St. Stanislaus Catholic School in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1954.
Ronald entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and served his country in the Korean conflict for two years. Stationed in Germany, he was discharged in 1956 at the rank of private first class and was awarded the Army Occupation Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
Stateside, Ronald married Dawn M. Shipley on Oct. 15, 1960, in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Lewiston. He returned to school and attended the University of Washington, graduating in 1964. Ronald and Dawn have lived in the same location in Lewiston for the past four decades. He taught English at Lewiston High School for 17 years, and owned the Hideaway Restaurant and Tavern prior to retirement in 1995.
Ronald was a parishioner of All Saints Catholic Church in Lewiston and a member of the University of Washington Alumni Association. He was also a member of the national Democratic Party and served the Idaho House of Representatives as the Assistant House Minority Leader.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dawn Marilyn Harlow of Lewiston; children Michael S. Harlow of Lewiston and Mary K. Harlow of Nashville, Tenn.; sisters Marlene Frye and Marie Frank, both of Lewiston; as well as grandsons Parker Bohn IV of Nashville and Evan Bohn of Knoxville, Tenn.
The family would like to thank their friends and neighbors in helping them, particularly Carmella Hall, Dr. Pluto, Dr. Perez, Dr. Garges, Dr. Dykstra, Dr. Whisenant, Dr. Jane Fore, Dr. Eggleston, as well as their staff and also Tri-State Memorial Hospital, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and the Veterans Affairs clinic for their love, help, comfort and encouragement during Ron's 11 years with COPD.
A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Lewiston, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass, with Father Brad Neely officiating.
