Rosemary Webb

Rosemary Webb

7/21/1931 — 4/8/2017

Grandma Rosie earned her wings in this life and went on to fly with the angels Saturday, April 8, 2017, at age 85.

She was born July 21, 1931, in Lewistown, Mont., to Ann and George Sobotta. She was the third of seven children.

The Sobotta family moved from Montana to Wisconsin, then to Lapwai, where she made her lifelong home. Rosemary possessed a strong work ethic. While her parents worked, she and her older sister, Gloria, her lifelong best friend, took care of their four younger brothers. Rosemary's love for children began with caring for her brothers and they always had a special place in her heart.

Rosemary worked for local farmers' wives cooking, cleaning and caring for their children. She later worked at Ann's Place, the family restaurant in Lapwai.

After graduating from Lapwai High School, she worked for First Security Bank in Lewiston. She then married Tom Webb and had five children: Pepsi, Tom, Terry, Tim and Jan. She went to work for Lapwai Elementary in 1968, then became a secretary at Lapwai High School until she retired in 1994. Grandma Rosie took care of many of her grandchildren and others in the Lapwai community.

Grandma Rosie was a devout Catholic who was proud of her Catholic faith. She loved flowers, gardening, reading, cooking, helping others and watching her sports, including the Seattle Mariners, Seattle Seahawks, Gonzaga Bulldogs, San Antonio Spurs and any game her children or grandchildren were playing.

Grandma Rosie was known as a good athlete, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Athletes in her family played football, baseball, basketball, softball, hockey, soccer, track, tennis and volleyball, danced, did rodeo, swam and did gymnastics. She put others first and prayed the rosary daily.

Rosemary was proud of her children - Pepsi and Ron Hewett, Tom and Debra Webb, Terry and Jackie Webb, Tim and Paula Webb, and Jan Webb; her grandchildren, Ronnie and Jane Hewett, Renee and Kelly Hewett Steiger, Reece and Shannon Hewett, Rori Santana, Rafe and TJ Hewett, Kelsey and Kami Seidel, Rue and Ryan Hewett Hoover, Thomas Webb, Kerry and Amanda Seidel, Darci and Trevor Yochum, Kaila and Aaron Williams, Jackson Webb, Abby Webb, and Ally Webb; great-grandchildren Rye Hewett Steiger, Roni Hewett, Rafa Hewett Steiger, Vincent Hewett, Lane Hewett, Mason Hewett, Gavin Hewett, Gabriella Santana, Donaven Santana, Cooper Hewett, Jagger Hewett, Xavier Santana, Sawyer Hewett, River Hoover, Reese Hoover, Hush Hewett and Rafe Hewett II; and great-great-grandchild BreeZ Okeze,

She was preceded in death by her father, George Sobotta; mother Ann Sobotta; brothers George Sobotta Jr., Dick Sobotta and Jack Sobotta; and sister Gloria Mullay.

A rosary will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, followed by a celebration of Rosemary's life at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lapwai, with Deacon Fred Schmidt officiating. There will be a private burial at a later date.

We were blessed to have such a strong, caring, wonderful woman in our lives. She will be forever in our hearts. Thank you to Lapwai for including Grandma Rosie as part of your community.
