Theodore Clemens Ahlers (Ted) passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Aug. 19, 2015, with his loving wife, Sue, at his side. Ted was born to Herbert and Mary Ann (Wemhoff) Ahlers on March 3, 1952, in Cottonwood. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School and graduated from St. Gertrude's Academy in Cottonwood in 1970.

Ted was a hard-working and honest man. He started working early in life, driving a grain truck and combine for his grandfather at the age of 14. Ted worked as a diesel mechanic and a truck driver after graduating from Lewis-Clark State College. He traveled thousands of truck miles over Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Ted married his best friend and the love of his life, Susan Appleford, on Dec. 20, 1980. They lived in Idaho and Oregon and then moved to Asotin, where they lived the better part of their 35 years together.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Mary Ann Ahlers; his father-in-law, Duane Appleford; and grandparents Adolph and Lena Gehring Ahlers and Clemens and Agnes Seubert Wemhoff.

He is survived by his wife, Sue of Asotin; son Kevin and Bonita Hafer; granddaughters Josie and Ellie Hafer of Lewiston; his mother-in-law, Beverly Appleford of Asotin; sister-in-law Nancy Kettle of Gold Beach, Ore; and brother-in-law Rick and Anne Appleford of Asotin. Ted is also survived by three brothers and four sisters, Jim and Tama Ahlers of Lewiston, Mike Ahlers of Lewiston, Joe Ahlers and Heidi Remacle of Cottonwood, Ethel and Steve Bardwell of Meridian, Molly and Bill Robbins of Nampa, Shirley and Tom Bower of Cottonwood, and Vicki and Randy Shears of Cottonwood; as well as many nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and -nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will include a rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Mass at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clarkston. Cremains will be laid to rest in Holy Family Catholic Columbarium.
