Noah Verlyn (Babe) Howell passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at his Clarkston home of causes related to age. He was 91.
Babe was born March 5, 1923, in Boise, to Noah and Suzie (Peterson) Howell. The family moved to Clarkston when he was small, and he attended Clarkston schools. He married Florence Scott on Dec. 20, 1941, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and came back to Clarkston to work as a carpenter for Potlatch Forest Inc., retiring after 35 years of service.
Babe and Florence had two children, Noah David and Nancy Louise. Florence passed away in 1992 after 50 years together.
Babe loved carpentry and fishing, particularly on the Oregon Coast at the mouth of the Columbia River.
He is survived by his son, David; grandchildren Shelley (Jeff) Spencer, Tracey (Terry) Roth, Marcy (David) Richardson; and stepgranddaughter Teri (Jim) Nitcy; five great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters and a stepgreat-granddaughter as well as one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his brother, Lester; as well as his companion, Dorothy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters, one brother, as well as his daughter and one granddaughter, Bobbette Key.
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home is handling arrangements, with services scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at its chapel at 920 21st Ave., in Lewiston. Interment will follow at the Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston.
