Victor Matney went peacefully in his sleep at the Idaho Veterans Home after his battle with cancer. He was 93.
Victor was born Sept. 17, 1924, to Jack and Stella Matney of Hornbrook, Calif. They later divorced. He was raised on the Horn Ranch, during which time his mother married John Cooley. He spent his early years rodeoing around the Northwest and also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a heavy equipment operator and worked on several road construction and dam projects throughout the Northwest.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki (Greg) Poffenberger of Lewiston; and son Jeffrey Matney of Orofino.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
