Victor R. Thomas, 75, a Lewiston-Clarkston Valley resident, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.
Born April 15, 1943, to Steve and Wanda Thomas of Clarkston, Vic grew up in the L-C Valley along with siblings Darlene Jolliff, Tina Thomas and Craig Thomas. He attended Clarkston High School, where his competitive athleticism helped lead the Bantams basketball team to a state championship; he also played quarterback for the football team. After high school, he attended the University of Washington to later return and settle his home in the L-C Valley. He then took over the family business as president and owner of Morrell Construction, building grain silos. He later retired and liquidated the business.
Vic was an avid, master golfer who won eight Lewiston Golf & Country Club Men’s Club championships and two Clarkston Golf & Country Club crowns during the 1970s and 1980s. He competed in multiple Kemper Open golf tournaments with his brother, Craig Thomas, winning two years in a row. Vic also enjoyed competing in surrounding tournament areas like Portland and Walla Walla. Much of his talent and love for golf was passed down from his father, Steven, who also was a competitive golfer. The Thomas family spent much of their time out on the course, often competing against one another.
Though his passion was golf, Vic loved boating and fishing upriver on the Salmon and Snake rivers. Hunting and camping with friends was his second love of life. Later in life, around age 55, Vic found Christianity. Ever since, he faithfully devoted himself to the First Baptist Church, led by his lifelong friend and pastor, Randy Olsen, where Vic became a familiar face to its fellowship.
Victor is survived by five children: Shannon Robinett (Craig), Kelley Fulford (Kenny), Brian Thomas (Angie), Jason Thomas (Allison) and Jared Thomas; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at the First Baptist Church, with Pastor M. Randy Olson presiding. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in memory of Victor to the First Baptist Church, 1326 Chestnut St., Clarkston.
