Wilbur George Hasenoehrl passed away on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at the age of 96.

Wilbur was born on May 24, 1928, to George and Magdalena (Feucht) Hasenoehrl, the fifth of 11 children. He grew up in Mission Creek, Idaho, and graduated from St. Gertrude’s.

He was drafted to the Korean War, serving in the United States Army stationed outside of Washington, D.C. One of his duties included being honor guard to the fallen buried at Arlington Cemetery.

He returned home to go to college but left to help a cousin build a house in which he excelled, eventually having a career as a commercial and industrial building contractor. He also farmed and ranched.

Wilbur married Rita Cusack on Feb. 16, 1957. They were married for 56 years and together raised their seven children in Lewiston. He loved many outdoor activities and shared them with his family including camping, fishing, skiing and hunting. Wilbur and Rita traveled to many states and countries including Ireland and the Holy Land. They spent many winters in Arizona.

Wilbur had a devotion to God shown through his involvement in his Church and communities in Lewiston and Arizona. He was honored to be able to build three churches for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; son, James; siblings, Francis (Vicky), Viola (Bruno) Kensok, Leo (Wilma), Barbara (Toney) Flerchinger, (Jack Maloney), George (Nina) (June) and Ken (Carolyn).

Wilbur is survived by his six children and their families: Mary and Troy Inman; Rose and Virgil Frei, their children Alyssa (fiancé Scott Wemhoff), Zachary, Kimberly and Adam Uptmor; their children Jolee, Colton, Jace and Claire; Joshua, Nicole and Rachael (fiancé Travis Goehring); Brenda and Frank Taylor, their daughter Jessica and Jason Rodgers, their son James; Eric and Lisa Hasenoehrl, their children Nicholas, Steven, Shane (fiancée Jessica Wallace), Emma (fiancé Randy MacDonald) and Lucy; Shawn and Karen Hasenoehrl, their daughters Jennifer, Sara, Andrea and Jake Vogt, Lauren and Kalyn; Christine and Sean Booth, their children, Chad and Hannah, their children Ryder, Harper and Bennett; Michelle (fiancé Stanley Sylverain), Amy and Keen Meeks, David and Olivia, their child Asher; Josephine, Jacqueline, and Garret; his sisters: Geneva Maloney, Delores (Bob) Blank, Loretta (Ray) Stubbers, and Sandra (Bill) Clark; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.

A viewing will take place from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, 920 21st Ave., Lewiston.

A rosary will be recited along with a viewing at 10:20 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, with the funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m., at All Saints Catholic Church, 3330 14th St., Lewiston. A luncheon will follow the at the church. The graveside burial will take place at 2 p.m. at Lewis-Clark Memorial Gardens in Lewiston.

In lieu of flowers, Wilbur suggested memorials be given to The Poor Clare Nuns, Monastery of St. Clare, 4419 N. Hawthorne St., Spokane, WA., 99205, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
