Anne Crea passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, at her home from age related causes.
Anne was born Jan. 25, 1928, in Ferdinand to William C. and Elizabeth K. Frei. She was raised with her three brothers and one sister on a farm near Ferdinand.
The family moved to Grangeville in 1940. She graduated from Grangeville High School in 1945. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper at the A&F Department Store and for the U.S. Forest Service.
She married the love of her life, George Crea, on Nov. 21, 1953. They lived on the Camas Prairie until 1965 when the family moved to Lewiston where George established Crea Machine Service. Anne worked for Dr. T. W. Armour, DDS, until 1979, at which time she started work for Kenaston Corporation, retiring in 1994.
George and Anne were faithful members of the St. James Catholic Church, and later the All Saints Catholic Church. She particularly enjoyed singing in the choir.
Anne is survived by her three children, Karen Meacham, of Nezperce, Karel (Dale) Wemhoff, of Winona, and Karl (Jan), of Lewiston, granddaughters Laurel (David) Mayer, of Clarkston, Kelsey (James) Candler, of Lewiston, Shannon (Mike) Jones, of Lewiston, grandsons Kyle (Jeanna) Meacham, of Nezperce and Scott (Alyssa) Wemhoff, of Winona, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents, her three brothers Joe, Carl and Tony Frei, her sister Christine Bruegeman, and her son-in-law Rick Meacham.
Funeral services will be celebrated Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church, 3330 14th St., Lewiston, beginning with a rosary recited at 10:20 a.m., followed by Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
Note: The above obituary was found in her desk, hand-written by Anne, but we think she was a little too modest. So we would like to add: Mom’s reputation as a really wonderful cook was wide-spread. She changed almost every recipe, adding ingredients and substituting to make them better. Her delicious home-cooked meals made from scratch, chocolate chip cookies, sheath cake and sweet pickles all were fantastic. She was also an avid vegetable and flower gardener. As kids, we remember her very large vegetable garden (which we had to weed) and her raspberry patch, from which she made delicious raspberry jam. Her flowers were always beautiful, with roses being her favorite. Us kids think she was the best mom this side of heaven.
