Bethany M. Chase, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 5. A loving, gentle and joyful woman, Beth always had a kind word and smile for everyone she encountered. She was, in a word, magnificent.

She was born on July 31, 1946, in Antigo, Wis., a daughter of the late James and Merilean (Hopkins) Young. She spent most of her childhood on the family's dairy farm and graduated from Antigo High School in 1964. She moved to Lewiston in 1970, working at Grants and later Best.

Beth married the love of her life, Gary Chase, on Jan. 21, 1989, and became a devoted and loving mother to his two children, Dan and Katie. Beth then went to work with Gary at their real estate appraisal business and always kept things running smoothly. Her creativity knew no bounds, particularly once she retired.

Beth was an accomplished cook who loved to whip up delicious meals to share with friends and family. She grew beautiful roses and her grandchildren loved to help her in the garden. Her home and children's homes are decorated with the beautiful quilts she made. She often spent her evenings either reading a new book or working on her latest knitting project. She was an active member of Congregational-Presbyterian Church in Lewiston, singing in the choir and always willing to serve wherever she was needed. Her love of the Lord was evident to all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gary; two children, Dan (Stacey) Chase and Katie (Darren) Pratt; two grandchildren, Natalie and Ryan; her brother, Jim (Tamara) Young; two sisters, Jamie (Glen) Gildemeister and Laurel (Joe) Lietermann; numerous nieces and nephews; and many beloved extended family members and friends.

A memorial service for Beth will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational-Presbyterian Church in Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor with the memorial fund at Congregational-Presbyterian Church.
