With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Betty Lou Currier. She passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at her home in Lewiston, surrounded by the love of her family.
Betty was born on July 5, 1941, to Joseph and Emma Dauenhauer in Killdeer, N.D. She spent her early years surrounded by a large and loving family before moving to Missoula, Mont. It was there that she met and married Robert C. Anderson in 1959. They eventually made their home in St. Maries, where together they raised four children: Terrance, Tamara, Brenda and Bryan.
Later in life, after her marriage to Bob ended, she found her true soulmate and the love of her life, George Currier. They were married Nov. 4, 1976. Through their loving partnership, she was blessed with three additional children whom she loved dearly: Joe, Robin and Arloa. In 2006, Betty and George made their home in Lewiston.
Together, Betty and George created countless cherished family traditions. Easter egg coloring sessions — often enjoyed just as much by the adults as the children — Fourth of July celebrations, and Christmas gatherings became treasured events that brought family together year after year. They took great pride in creating lasting memories, and those special moments will forever remain in our hearts.
Though she held several jobs during her years in St. Maries — including positions at a local bakery, Sears, Peet’s Shoe Dryers and KOFE Radio — being a homemaker was her favorite role. She took great pride in caring for her family, creating a warm and welcoming home, and making sure everyone who entered felt loved and cared for. Her family was always her greatest joy and highest priority.
Betty had a passion for gardening, and it showed. Her beautiful roses and flowers filled her yard with color, beauty and fragrance. She also found great joy in baking for family and friends. She will always be remembered for her delicious homemade pickles made from vegetables grown in her garden, her famous “Herman” rolls baked from scratch, and her warm, radiant smile.
Her home was always filled with love, laughter, delicious treats and the beauty of flowers she lovingly tended. Above all else, Betty treasured her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of her world, and she took immense pride in each of them. Her love, guidance, generosity and unwavering support created a legacy that will continue for generations.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us and the love she shared so freely. She was deeply loved, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Emma Dauenhauer; her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, George Currier; her brothers, Felix Dauenhauer, Eugene Dauenhauer and Alfred Dauenhauer; her sisters, Gladys Marquardt-Brandl, Delores Klein, Lorie Moore- Christensen, Helen Marquardt and Violet Keller.
She is survived by her sweet miniature schnauzer, “Pepper”, at the family home; her sister, Lorraine Gerhart, of Missoula; her children, Brenda Rohde, of Lewiston, Tamara Downing (Dan), of Post Falls, Terrance Anderson, of Coeur d’Alene, Bryan Anderson (Melodye), of Kimberly, Idaho, Joe Currier (Kacey) and Robin Applewhite, of St. Maries, Arloa Dolphin (Brien), of Post Falls, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Washington National Guard will arrange a brief ceremony for family at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Wash.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Heart ’n Home Hospice, Cornerstone Caregiving and Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home for their kindness, compassionate care and unwavering support during these past difficult months. Their dedication and compassion brought comfort to both Betty and her family and will always be remembered.
