Bonnie Jean Young, a longtime resident of Kamiah, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, after suffering a brain aneurism.
She was 79.
Born Dec. 22, 1937, in Lewiston, Bonnie spent most of her life in Kamiah. She met and married her husband, Phillip Young, when they were teenagers at Kamiah High School, and they married at age 17 on Nov. 12, 1955. Their three children, Cindy, Mike and Kathy, were raised in Kamiah and all attended Kamiah High School like their parents.
Bonnie was the manager at Twin Feathers Credit Union before becoming the bookkeeper at Dabco Logging Co. She enjoyed her work there and became lasting friends with her co-worker, Marsha. In her later years, Bonnie enjoyed traveling to Alaska and Arizona with Phillip and visiting with friends.
Bonnie was the mother of three, the grandmother of six and the great-grandmother of 12. Being a grandmother was one of the great joys of her life. Cheering on her grandson, Cody, from the baseball stands or showing off her granddaughters "all the way from Alaska" were some of her happiest moments. Her grandchildren could do no wrong in her eyes.
Bonnie's family will miss her tacos at Christmas, creamed peas at Easter and strawberry shortcake with cream in the summers. She will be remembered for her gracious, kind-hearted nature and ability to fill a room with a story. She will be missed.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Inez and Claire; and her brother and sister, Jerry and Lola. She is survived by her husband, Phillip Young; children Cindy Young, Mike Young and Kathy Eller; their spouses, Allison Young and Stan Eller; grandchildren Lacey, Dana, Jessie, Chrissy, Cody and Wyatt; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Presbyterian Church in Kamiah.
