Jeanie Brooke, 85, of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025.
She was born on March 23, 1940, in North Platte, Neb., to Louise and Arnold Torske. She grew up in Gibbon, Neb., and moved to Denver after high school. She met and married Bill Brooke in 1960 and they had six children: four girls and two boys. Sadly, they lost their first son, Kirk Patrick, at birth. They moved to California which Jeanie thought was heaven on earth and settled in Sebastopol. They raised their family in a sweet house with an apple orchard on Vine Hill Road. Jeanie was not only a full-time mom, she also worked as a newspaper reporter and photographer for the Sebastopol Times. She was a wonderful hostess and an excellent cook, who loved to throw fabulous theme parties. She was vivacious, creative and witty. She knew no stranger and loved to find out what made people tick.
Jeanie held many jobs in her lifetime. She was an editor, writer, author of a resource book on childhood education, helped to pass No Smoking legislation in the state of North Dakota, interviewed chefs for The Culinary Institute in San Francisco, worked for a radio show, had several jobs in advertising and later, owned her own advertising agency. Jeanie loved her work, but she always stated her greatest achievement was raising her five children. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents. She is survived by her ex-husband Bill, her brother Gary, her adopted sisters Crystal, Desiree and Purette, her five children Jill, Stephanie, Heather, Erin and John, and by her grandchildren Rhett, Lindsey, Logan, Zoe, Aiden, Nick and Olivia.
The family is planning a memorial in the spring.
