Cherie A. Dayton Walker

Cherie A. Dayton Walker

8/27/1941 — 2/13/2018

On the morning of Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, Cherie Ann Dayton passed away at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center of heart failure.

Cherie was born Aug. 27, 1941, in Wilford, Idaho. She was the last of four children born to Mildred and Henry Claude Dayton.

She married Russell Curwen Walker in Idaho Falls on Oct. 5, 1963. Together, they were blessed to raise three sons. Though the marriage ended in 1978, they remained friends.

After living in Idaho Falls she moved to San Diego.

While in San Diego, she spent many productive years as a teacher's aide, where she became a favorite of many students. Her years as a teacher's aide gave her a great sense of accomplishment and joy as she would often speak of her students and their accomplishments. Cherie also spent many years as a caregiver, becoming close to those she worked for. She loved her time in Southern California, enjoying the sunshine, the ocean, visiting bistros, shopping and her many, many friends, whom she spoke of and remembered often.

From there she moved to Sicily, Italy, where she loved living under the Tuscan sun. She often talked about her many European travels during her time there. She cherished her hand-selected Lladro figurine collection.

She also loved to travel and went on many cruises, including to Mexico, the Caribbean and Alaska. She was looking forward to and actively planning on going on one of the gospel cruises.

From Italy, she moved back to San Diego for a short time. She then moved in 2007 to Lewiston, where happiness was hers among her children, grandchildren, her brother, Lane, and her niece, Liz, with whom she formed a special bond, and her many other nieces and nephews.

Cherie was one of a kind with her exuberant, bubbly personality. She was one of the most nonjudgmental people you will ever meet and was always willing to help those in need. She enjoyed attending the Faith Bible Church, where she felt warmth and love from her church family, and her visits to the Bible Missionary Church, where her brother, Lane, pastored at one time. She loved spending hours in the kitchen making her famous dishes and then spreading the joy of sharing them with her friends and family. You could always count on her willingness to bring the food to the party. And she certainly was the life of the party and loved any gathering of family and friends.

Cherie is survived by her sons, Mike Walker, of Lewiston, Mark (Darcy) Walker, of Lewiston, and Scott Walker, of San Diego. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Danielle Carter, Alaine Walker, Masey Garbe, Brady Walker, Morgan (Randy) Bates and Laura Walker; and one great-grandchild, Levi Carter. She also is survived by her brother, G. Lane (Bette) Dayton, of Lewiston, and a sister, Janet (Richard) Russell, of Winchendon, Mass. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry C. Dayton; her mother, Mildred E. Dayton; and brother Gene C. Dayton.

A celebration of her life will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home, 920 21st Ave., Lewiston. Dinner will follow the service at the Fellowship Hall at Faith Bible Church, 514 Warner Ave., Lewiston.
