Claud L. Grant

Claud L. Grant

10/15/1919 — 4/25/2017

Claud Grant went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at the Royal Plaza Retirement Center of Lewiston.

Claud was born Oct. 15, 1919, to Harlan Lewis Grant and Elsie Kollenborn Grant of Rosetta, Idaho, near Gifford. He attended school at Rosetta.

Claud served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945. He was stationed in the Philippines as a heavy truck driver.

On Aug. 27, 1950, Claud married Nancy Gibbs at her family farm, where they lived until 1956, when they built a new house and moved a mile away to their own farm. They had one son, Richard. Claud and Nancy lived on the family farm until 2008, when they moved to the Royal Plaza Retirement Center.

Claud had a passion for farming. Starting in the 1950s, he began using clover plow down and new breeds of wheat to build one of the higher county averages. He was proud to be a farmer and was always ready to help a neighbor. Claud was a member of the Cottonwood Creek Community Church and a member of the Culdesac Gun Club for many years.

Claud liked family camping trips to the mountains, packing into the wilderness areas and trips to the coast. In later years, Claud and Nancy enjoyed spending winters at Caliente Hot Springs.

Claud is survived by his son, Richard Grant; daughter-in-law Kathy; grandsons Jeffrey and David, all on the family farm in Culdesac; and granddaughter Amy Berger and her husband, Derek, of Clarkston. He also is survived by sisters Betty Monroe and Sally Nichel; brother Louis Grant; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Claud was preceded in death by brothers Marvin, Russell, Edward, Milton, Verl, Joe and Bob; and sister Louise Omans.

We want to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at the Royal Plaza Retirement Center for their compassionate care of Claud.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home in Lewiston. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery. A reception will be held at the Royal Plaza Retirement Center immediately after the graveside service.
