David Richard "Dick" Wyatt, 79, of Lewiston, completed his earthly mission and joined his savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. Dick was born Jan. 13, 1938, in Daly City, Calif., to the late David Lloyd Wyatt and LaVena Arlene "Jackie" Chitwood. He grew up in Deary and near Webb Ridge southeast of Lewiston on a cattle/wheat ranch. He moved to Clarkston and attended both Clarkston and Lewiston high schools. He graduated in 1956 as salutatorian from Lewiston High School.
Dick received a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corp (NROTC) college scholarship and earned a Bachelor's of Science in agriculture engineering in 1961 from the University of Idaho, where he was then commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy. Dick's naval service included: 1961-64, USS Picking (DD0685); 1965-91, Naval Reserve Surface Div 13-16S, SACLANT 422, VTU 2209, COMTHIRDFLT DET 322, Naval Control Okinawa 622, VTU 2209; and he retired in 1991 as a captain.
Dick started his civilian career with John Deere Killifer Works in Vernon, Calif., as a product and research engineer for agricultural equipment. He moved back to Lewiston in 1965 to start work with Hoffman & Fiske, a consulting engineering firm. In 1973, Dick became a junior partner in the firm and then a full partner in 1975. In 1978, he purchased the firm's Lewiston office and formed RW Engineering. In 1985, Dick joined with Jay Kim Engineers of California to form Wyatt-Jaykim Engineers Inc. In 1995, he bought out Jay Kim and formed Wyatt Engineering Inc. In 2001, Wyatt Engineering was purchased by USKH Inc., which is where he retired in 2003. Dick continued working part time during his retirement as an independent consultant from 2003-17. He also served from 1978-84 as partner and president for Lewiston's Allis-Chalmers Canyon Equipment Inc. farm dealership.
Dick very much loved his family and was defined by his Christian faith. He spent many years teaching Sunday school, serving on the church board of directors and spreading the word of God to people from all walks of life. He was known for his generosity in volunteering for many different civic organizations such as the Shriners, Masons, local food bank, nursing homes, Gideons and jail ministry, where he helped others in need. Dick lived his life to the fullest and was a true patriot who loved America and its beacon of freedom. He took delight in telling stories, and you never had to guess where he stood on any issue. Dick truly enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing, boating and feeding the squirrels and birds.
Dick is survived by his son, Christopher, and wife Robin Wyatt of Tualatin, Ore.; daughter Suzanne Brown (Wyatt) of Lewiston; daughter Valerie Cody and husband Dewayne of Monroe, Wash.; grandchildren Braeden Wyatt, Brennan Wyatt, Ethan Brown, Tirzah Cody, Hannah Cody, Priscilla Cody and Sabrina Cody; and his sister, Sylvia, and husband Bill Allen of Chewelah, Wash., and their family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lewis-Clark Gideons, P.O. Box 751, Lewiston, ID 83501-0751. A memorial celebration service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Abundant Life Church, 1483 16th Ave., Clarkston, followed by a reception.
We pray Dick's new journey is peaceful and full of glory, honor and filled with unlimited time to fish and tell endless stories. One of Dick's favorite Bible verses is Ephesians 2:8: "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God."

RIP Dick. My friend. I just found out of the passing of Dick and was very happy I got to pray with him just before he died. I didn't know he passed. He was a good guy and will miss him coming into the store and visiting.
