On the evening of Monday, Jan. 28, 2019, Donald Edward Brown Sr. passed away at his longtime home in Kendrick. Don was born to Ed and Lula Brown on Jan. 28, 1928, in Deary. He leaves his two sons, Don Jr. (and wife Chris) and John (and Michelle); daughters Julie (and husband Richard) May and Kathy (and husband Raul) Robledo; sister Kathryn Wohllaib in Cheyenne, Wyo.; and many grandkids, great-grandkids, great-great-grandkids, nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen; daughters LaDonna, Barbara and Margaret; grandsons Geno Dygert, Joshua Robledo and Josh Westley Brown; and great-grandson Kaleb Brown.
On Oct. 27, 1950, Don was inducted into the U.S. Army and transferred to the Army Reserve on Oct. 15, 1952. After serving in the Army, Don went to work for the state of Idaho. Not long after Don returned home from the Army, he married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Weaver, on Sept. 4, 1953. Don and Mary Ellen were married for 53 years and shared many wonderful memories.
Don had a passion for the great outdoors. He loved taking his kids and grandkids up to hunting camp. Don was a great provider for his family, and it was important to him to fill up the freezer every year. Don also loved fishing and camping. He would go out and catch fish and bring them back to Mary Ellen to fry (and she made the best fried fish). In his later years, he loved to garden. He would spend many, many hours in his garden. Gardening was one of his biggest passions. Throughout his life, Don passed on what it was to be a hard-working man. He taught his boys and grandkids how to work on vehicles. There was nothing that he could not do or accomplish.
There will be a covered-dish celebration of life from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall, 301 B St., Kendrick. Please send donations to the J-K Ambulance at P.O. Box 182, Kendrick, ID 83537.
